Cahuita National Park scuba diving reef beach CaribbeanThe beach here is the nesting ground of four species of sea turtle, among them the Leatherback. They return here from March through July to lay their eggs, then swim away.. Another such area is on the Pacific coast of Guanacaste, at Las Baulas National Marine Park

From a Coral Reef to a Swamp and Forests.

Snorkeling and scuba diving are permitted, and tour outfits from Cahuita run boats to the area during high season. They also operate land-based hiking trips through the area. Besides the beach and reef, you can enjoy the wildlife in the estuary, home to crocodiles, tapirs and a myriad of birds and reptiles. Other kinds of birds, butterflies and animals can be seen in a pair of local swamps and a 750-acre forest that are part of this attraction.
Hotels and Resorts, Cabinas and Camping.

Most of the accommodations are lodges, cabinas and other low-budget affairs. It is all very tranquilo when you get this far south; Panama and the lovely islands of Bocas del Toro, home to Bastacimientos Marine Park, are just over the border. It’s also close to the Bri Bri Indians in the Talamancas, so there is plenty to do here.

Without a car, your best bet is to take one of the Sixaloa buses from San Jose, or catch one in Limon or Cahuita. The southernmost road gets washed out for a few days almost every rainy season. However, September and October are the driest time of year on the Caribbean.
