Arenal lay dormant until July 29 in 1968, when an earthquake shook the area, and 12 hours later, Arenal blew.
If you have never seen an active Volcano, Arenal makes for a spectacular first.
This 1633m Volcano rises majestically out of the lush pastures and forest on the eastern end of Lake Arenal.
Intermittent explosions draw people by day and night, although night is the best time to observe red-hot molten lava enveloping the top of the cone.
Even when overcast, the rumblings, venting, and molten lava glowing through the clouds offer a very special experience.
Also, enjoy the hot springs where you may also view the volcano.
